DDOT Budget Hearing May 9

The Detroit City Council has scheduled the DDOT budget hearing for tomorrow - Wednesday, May 9 at 10:00 am at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Building, 13th Floor. TRU opposes the Bing Administration's cut to the DDOT subsidy by $10 million until DDOT resolves issues regarding timeliness and providing enough bus service to meet riders' needs.  See our testimony which is attached.

In the meantime, TRU is considering filing a Title VI complaint because DDOT violated federal guidelines with the March service cuts. Also we are working with community mental health agencies and consumers to develop an action plan to improve transportation services for people with physical and mental disabilities and people in receovery. Lastly, we are thankful for our summer interns who will be helping TRU with community engagement activities, our Faces of Transit video projects, social media and much more. Our focus will be on bus service, regional transit, rapid transit, and a Transit Bill of Rights.

If you want to know more about TRU's work, visit our website and sign up for our e-newsletter or contact me.
